What is the training attire for CORE Training sessions?

Formal Attire

Black Karate or Jiu-Jitsu/Judo Gi w/ PDE Patches and rank belt. PDE Rank T-Shirt worn under Gi top.

Proper Training Attire:

For Beginners:

  • Plain White T-Shirt and black shorts.

CORE Members:

  • (Formal) Black Karate or Jiu-Jitsu Gi w/ PDE Patches and rank belt. PDE Rank T-Shirt worn under Gi Top.

  • (Casual) PDE Rank T-Shirt w/ variation of PDE Fight Shorts or black shorts/pants and rank belt.

What equipment should I purchase?

Tools for Training:

Minimum

  • Pair of Garrotes (Sticks) sized from armpit to fingertips generally 28” – 30”

  • Pair of Live Bolos (Machetes) 24” to 28” (Adults Only)

  • Sibat (Staff) 4’ to 6’

  • Training Blade(s) - Long Blade and Short Blade (Polymer / Wood / Aluminum)

    Protection for Padded and Live Stick Sparring:

  • Sparring Helmet (WEKAF / Fencing / Padded or Boxing)

  • Protective Gloves (Boxing and/or MMA Type and Lacrosse or FMA specific)

  • Eye Protection

  • Male / Female Protection (cup, chest guard)

Outside of the recommended gear above, protective gear is per the needs and wants of the individual student.

Monday and Wednesday Nights - CORE Training Sessions

Lil’ Eskrimadors 6:00pm to 6:30pm

Youth 6:30pm to 7:30pm

  • 7:00pm to 7:30 Ho‘okahi ‘Ohana"One Family" Time

JR’s and Adults 7:00pm to 8:30pm

Tuesday Nights OPEN MAT - Tune-Up Sessions

6:30pm to 8:30pm All Ages

Friday Private Lessons

8:00am to 1:00pm

Friday Night Keiki OPEN MAT (Lil’s and Youth)

5:00pm to 6:00pm

Saturday Morning Breakfast Club

Youth / JR’s / Adults 8:00am to 9:30am

What are the rules of the school and protocols?

Rules of Conduct
1.Always salute when entering and leaving class – Respect.
2.Always greet highest-ranking Maestro first – Honor.
3.No horse playing, yelling, or running around.
4.No profanity.
5.Clean, proper uniform, according to rank at all times.
6.Attendance – Be prompt.
7.Respect for garrotes, keep weapons in proper place.
8.Once class begins no unnecessary talking.  Raise hand for attention.
9.No eating in class, water is permitted.
10.No smoking.
11.No loitering after class.
12.Pay dues on time.

Protocol

Derobio Handshake: Pointer and Middle Finger extended in hand to feel pulse of brother in the arts.

Greet highest rank first.

Begin and End each class with formal salutations.  Students will line up according to rank having the highest ranking student at the front right of formation.

Andam (Stand at Attention): Student to stand at a neutral position with feet shoulder width apart.  Garrote to be held across chest with Power-hand facing out and Live-hand facing inward with fingers extended.

Saludo (Salute): From Andam position…

-        Kajukenbo Cross block with Power-hand over Live-hand placed just above

forehead. (Honoring GM Julian “Blue” Generalao)

-        Draw Power-hand to heart cupping the base (punyo) with Live-Hand.

-        Power-Right step back with Left Leg, Power-Left step back with Right Leg.

-        Extend Power-hand while cupped with Live-hand in front of body.

Power-hand cupped with Live-hand represents “ No blood will be spilled”.
